Abstract
Founded in 1997, Thinfilm has been working in the field of organic electronics for nearly two decades. A rewritable ferroelectric polymer memory is still the cornerstone of Thinfilm's product portfolio. It was initially developed as an alternative to NAND flash memory in close collaboration with Intel Corporation. For the last 10 years, Thinfilm has focused on high-volume manufacturing by printing and low-cost applications. The ferroelectric memory is currently produced in millions by roll-to-roll printing and is commercially available.
Thinfilm has recently expanded the product line with smart labels, including NFC tags, and is actively working with two different transistor technologies: printed-dopant polysilicon (PDPS) and organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). The PDPS technology was acquired from Kovio Inc. in 2014 and enables high‐performance transistors that support the high frequency RF circuitry required for NFC. The smart labels are produced by integration and assembly of subcomponents such as memory, logic, sensors, displays, batteries, and antennas for wireless communication.
