Standardization of Organic Electro Luminescence Illumination Device

Illumination with organic electro luminescence (OEL) device has been rapidly evolving as the light of the next generation to replace ordinary fluorescence lamp as illumination. Japan assumed priority in OEL technology development and still maintains significant advantage therein to date, product samples became available from several manufacturers, and mass production as well as commercialization of the device come in sight. International competition in the industry is anticipated in the very near future. Thus, institutional endeavor toward the establishment of internationally acceptable technical standards for OEL devices and products needs to be pursued in order to strengthen the status of Japan in the illumination-related industry.
