{Finished} The 42nd ROEL Lecture Session

The 42nd ROEL Lecture Session was held in Seminar Room on the 1st Floor in 100th Anniversary Hall on Aug. 28th. As a guest speaker, Prof. Eiichi Nakamura from Department of Chemistry, University of Tokyo, gave us a lecture entitled "Organic Electronics research led by new reactions and new materials."
More than 50 reseachers and students attended to the lecture, and it finished in success.

Subject

"Organic Electronics research led by new reactions and new materials"

Since there are unlimited varieties of the structure of organic semiconductor molecular and organism which they form, it is a new and exciting challenge for chemists to design a high-efficiency Organic Solar Cell (OSC) consisted of thin-films of various organic compounds with different functions.
Based on the principle, “seeking functional molecular with looking for an idea in new reactions,” we’ve been developing the design and synthesis of new-type flat conjugated molecular and spherical conjugated molecular, Fullerene derivatives, which show the semiconduction, and the controlling system at nano-scale for the structures of those molecular organisms. Although the keys to the research on the OSC are “designing high-performance organic semiconductors”, and “fully classifying/layering molecular organisms at the nano- to macro-scale,” these topics haven’t discussed in researches in chemistry very often. Also it is to be hoped that the challenge for “analysis of aperiodic structures at molecular-scale” leads to pioneer a new field of a basic science. Unlike applying to medicines and agricultural chemicals which have already been attracting wide interests, the application to electrical and electronics technology has not started yet.
